Thank you! and moving forward
What a wonderful evening! At the March 11 community screening of 180 Days Well Spent, hosted by PARCEO, about 75 people came together from many communities across the city–parents, educators, activists, students, community members–to watch the video and then hear from a terrific group of panelists. MC’ed by PARCEO organizer, Yasmin Secada, also an organizer at the Parent Leadership Project, the program, in addition to the panel, also included a description of PARCEO, a tribute to educator and remarkable person, Linda Levine, who recently passed away, and a brief overview of the video.
PARCEO team members Emilia Pfannl and Donna Nevel also contributed to the program. The panel was moderated by amazing educator and activist, Edwin Mayorga, who immediately made everyone comfortable and set the tone and frame for the panel. The panelists were a combination of terrific teachers and parents–Dani Gonzalez, Ann Cook, Marilyn Barnwell, and Flor Donoso. Panelists (and then the audience in the discussion period) spoke about how we could move forward together to fight for educational justice.
In addition to the video, there was food and drink and good conversation amongst those who came. The event was held at a great cafe on 110th Street (Cafe Amrita) whose owner was a pleasure to work with.
We thank everyone who was there and look forward to continuing our work together as we fight for justice and equity in public education!
Referring to his experiences in his home state, he added I always said in texas, a great teacher deserves how to get my kid to do their homework a great salary.
