Update on Controlled Choice work
On Saturday, March 9, 2013, Michael Alves came to New York City Upper West Side to speak with parents, educators, community leaders, and organizers about how controlled choice might look in District 3. It was a very productive meeting and the group–the District 3 Working Group on Fairness and Equity in admissions–has been meeting monthly and is making progress in thinking about how to develop an equitable and fair student assignment plan that will well-serve the students and families of District 3. It was wonderful and extremely helpful having Michael Alves there whose work on controlled choice and on creating equitable assignment plans has strengthened school districts across the country.
