Last month PARCEO's Institute for Community Leadership and Fieldwork had the honor of joining a collective of undergrad student researchers from Bryn Mawr, Swarthmore, and Haverford colleges in Philadelphia. Whose Voices Matter: Creating a Transformative Educational Community
On March 21st, PARCEO took part in NYCoRE's 2015 conference "Justice not Just- Tests". Yasmin and Nina facilitated PARCEO's workshop "Whose Voices Matter: Creating a Transformative Educational Community," with 25 participants from various educational contexts, from high school and graduate students to teachers and community organizations.

Seminar Series- Documentation and Evaluation
Members from six different collaborating groups, including Parent Leadership Project, Partners for Change, El Museo, NYCoRE, and Muslim Community Network joined PARCEO as we explored how to evaluate our work through a Participatory Action Research (PAR) lens. PAR is a particularly meaningful framework for thinking about documentation and evaluation because it is rooted in a community’s experiences, challenges and solutions. Tackling Facilitation Challenges
We launched our seminar series, an ongoing space for personal and professional development and support. We spent the morning at El Museo del Barrio discussing facilitation challenges, a theme that grew out of a session of our Facilitation Training. During the seminar, we shared our stories and experience, and explored skills and ideas to support our growth. We modeled PAR principles as we facilitated and responded to shared challenges. Our prompt question was: What comes to mind when you hear the word participation?

Muslim Youth Press Conference
PARCEO was asked to conduct a workshop with a group of Muslim women in their early to late teens, who were participating in a youth leadership program with the Muslim Consultative Network (MCN). PARCEO facilitated a session that allowed the young Muslim women to think about their own experiences. They reflected on who they are individually and culturally and how they are depicted in the media. They discovered that placing their wisdom and leadership at the center of their work is crucial. After the workshop, the young women asked PARCEO to work with them to develop a campaign and coordinate a press conference so that they could share their experience. ...
